A great and must read article: nissan gtr for sale

Q: Nissan Gtr?
ok me and my girlfriend and mom landed in Tennessee around nashville for my gf’s cousins graduation and we got picked up from the airport by her aunt and as we were riding to their house my girlfriend says “oo hey thats a pretty car” and i looked over and it was a silver nissan gtr i almost S*** a brick i was hanging out the window trying to take pics and i still have 3 on my phone…but i thought the gtr wasnt supposed to hit the streets for a few more months? any ideas? a test drive maybe?

A: There are a few GT-R’s roaming around these are ones that have been imported before Nissan have released them worldwide although what they are saying is they will not allow and Nissan workers to do repairs to these cars.

Also there are some prototypes which have been used for track and other test and which have been left behind.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB4glsQhi3Q
one in Cal.

Q: Nissan GTR….?
What are your thoughts on the soon to be imported Nissan GTR?

A: In the history of japanese car evolution, Nissan produced 2 excelllent car 1) The GTR / Skyline 2) The Altima (Cefiro in asia).
The look of the GTR is actually suitable for mid age taste. In asia, those who can affort a GTR is consider an upper class society. Because not everyone over here can affort a Bimmer, Merc or Lambo. Therefore Nissan easily grab this niche market fast and produced R32, R33 & R34 and have a huge demand for it.
Most asian who drive the R34 are around mid thirties who wants to have real HP & without the overkill look compare to the Toyota Supra which is relatively similar to the GTR.
We in asia here has enjoyed the R34 for number of years now (around +- 8 years) & not to mention those drift junkies who know this car at the back of their fingers.
The R34 is another icon for us beside the Toyota AE86 since the mid eighties. Owning one of these is just like having a 1969 Cobra in America.
Hope you get the idea !

Q: Nissan gtr?
Ok i just graduated and im 17 my dad is going to buy me a car!, but i heard the nissan 2009 gtr was supposed to come out this year in the us? so can someone tell me when will it be out?….
its between this car or a 2005 infinity g35 thanks!.

A: Are you serious? So it’s between a used $17K luxury sedan vs. an $80K supercar(which will be marked up to $150K for a few months)? Anyways, if you’re not on the waiting list you aren’t getting one for a while.

Q: How much is a 2009 Nissan GTR and where/which companies currently import it to Singapore?
How much is a 2009 Nissan GTR in Singapore and where can it be found/which companies currently import it to Singapore?

And also are there any parallel importers for it?

A: there about $70,000 i believe as of the inport question i dont know

Q: How much would it cost to make a 2009 Nissan GTR a 1000HP?
How much would it cost to make a 2009 Nissan GTR a 1000HP?
Also would it make it 0 to 60 in 2.4 seconds?

A: This does happen Henessey or however you spell it sells upgraded kits i think they take the car and upgrade it and have different stages and know one of them is 1000hp so it is very achievable, plus you will most def beat the gtr v-spec and have spent less than buying it. check the website i posted its 800hp

Q: How much would it cost to tune a 2009 Nissan GTR to go 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds?
How much would it cost to tune a 2009 Nissan GTR to go 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds? Right now it takes 3.6 seconds.
Okay then how much would it cost to make it go to 0-60 in under 3 seconds?

A: Just how many cars do you think can out run a GT-R? a Modified Subaru or EVO may get a jump on the GT-R but those cars would never be as nice to drive or last as long. GT-R have data recorders that Nissan Technicians can download if the GT-R owner starts changing boost and making changes. Nissan will promptly void the warranty if the technician can prove the modification lead to a part failure.

Q: How much would The 2008 Nissan GTR cost in Australia?
Im thinking of buying one and getting rid of my Mazda RX7
What are the Transmissions in the Nissan GTR?
And what Should i get inline 6
inline 4
V8?
Are Nissan going to stop making them in 2009?

A: bro there’ only one version of GTR and that’s the twin turbo i6.

and all GTR has DSG/SMG tranmission, which is twin clutches aka F! clutch.

you also excellent taste. This is like a baby veyron.

0-60 3.5

not sure how much it will costs in down under, but it’s also 70k in the state, and that’s not including dealer markup.

also nissan is making only 1000 of these per month so the supply will be tight.

sorry i just look it up, it’s twin turbo v6 NOT I6.

since NIssan spent tons of money on making the car, they will continue making it for couple of years.

at least to cover ROI.

Q: what is the maximum horsepower a nissan GTR V6 engine can have?
I was wanting to know what the maximum horsepower a Nissan GTR V6 engine can have? Anything goes w/ or w/o supercharger or w/ or w/o turbo charger. Thanks for the help I dont want info on the V8.

A: Two problems with the VR38DETT: It’s a fairly small displacement engine, and it’s an aluminum block. Not a good combination if you’re looking for 4 digit horsepower.

The old RB series inline six was also small displacement, but it could make a lot of horsepower just by boosting the hell out of it, since it had a heavy iron block that could handle high levels of boost….50 psi and higher.

Some other aluminum engines, such as Chevrolet LS-series V8s, can produce over 1,000 horsepower out of an aluminum block, but that’s because they are high displacement engines of between 5.7 and 7 liters. Therefore, they require less boost to achieve that level of horsepower….as in about 15-20 psi.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say that the VR38 might be able to achieve 800-900 horspower eventually, but I don’t ever expect it to break 4 digits. Then again, I could be proven wrong….

Q: How much would it cost to make a 2009 Nissan GTR go 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds?
How much would it cost to make a 2009 Nissan GTR go 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds? What will i need?

A: There are new tuning parts out there for this car with the manifold and exhaust setup as well as other tuning parts best bet is to contact firms like topsecret in Japan whom tune thee cars and you know you are contacting a well known company.

Q: Who is the top Nissan Skyline GTR tuner in the world?
HKS, Top Secret, Amuse, AMS, Tommy Kiara…? I’m asking because I plan to purchase the new Nissan GTR and tune it for maximum track/autocross performance. Who would you recommend?

A: mines have been modding the new GT-R .

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/Video/Search-Results/Video/Features/Nissan-GT-R-blasts-around-Rockingham/

Iam sure the other companies are on the build also and they have a good name for themselves also. And dont forget about Nismo.and Trial.
http://www.topsecretjpn.com/gallery.shtml
No mention on there yet,Top secret are more famous to me for there skyline work although they did make a supra with a skyline engine.

Q: How much would it cost to put a nicer wing on the 2009 Nissan GTR?
How much would it cost to put a nicer wing on the 2009 Nissan GTR?

A: There is a new movable wing out there for the GT-R but i have no prices, other than that you could add a universal one,the it is just taking it to a body shop to get it fitted and patched up.

Q: Does anyone have tuning for a nissan gtr r35 in speed mode?
Does anyone have tuning for a nissan gtr r35 in speed mode?
I’m talking in Need for Speed Prostreet. so do you have any tuning tips?

A: O of course, since most people can afford a GTR

Q: How much will a 2009 Nissan GTR be in 2012?
How much will a 2009 Nissan GTR be in 2012? Also how much would it cost to tune it to become a 1000HP and safe?

A: It would depend entirely on the mileage and condition of the vehicle three years in the future, which I won’t even try to predict. The only thing that can be said with certainty is it will be worth less than now, since vehicles depreciate for the most part.

As to costs to modify the vehicle, another complete unknown.

Q: How much would it cost to buy a 2009 Nissan GTR in 2012 and also upgrade it to a 1000HP and still be safe?
How much would it cost to buy a 2009 Nissan GTR in 2012 and also upgrade it to a 1000HP and still be safe?
Also would it be able to make 0-60 in 2.6 seconds?
Also could I make it to a 1000HP with $30,000 and be safe?

A: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here – carinsurance.yoll.net

Q: How much to make a 2009 nissan GTR 1000 HP and also be safe?
How much to make a 2009 nissan GTR 1000 HP and also be safe?
Would i need to rebuild the engine or could i put a turbo charger on it?
How much will it cost?
Guys just tell me the price please i just want this car? thanks

A: First off, the car is $100,000 off the lot, and it makes about 400 wheel hp right now. A few companies have done work on these and some have reached the 700 whp mark, BUT after about another $40,000-$60,000 in upgrades. Remember once you hit a certain level of power, other things need to be addressed, such as the braking system, clutch, transmission, traction, and safety. If you want a 1000 HP GTR you will spend roughly another $300,000 in doing so and making it safe.

A great and must read article: 1996 toyota camry

Q: How much should I sell 1996 toyota camry with a locked engine for?
I’m looking to sell/get rid of my 1996 Camry since the engine locked up on it this past weekend. I recently put 1500 dollars worth of work into it with brand new brakes, tires, tune up, starter, struts and shocks. I don’t know if its worth anything now. But everything else was in stunning condition. I don’t feel like spending the 2k to get a new engine in it. How much could I sell it for random parts and whatnot.

A: Car over 10 years old with a locked engine.
won’t get much, maybe sell it in parts if you can go through that

Q: How much would YOU pay for a 1996 Toyota Camry in excellent condition if you knew it had been in an accident?
I got hit in the parking lot, and it damaged the headlight and turning signal. It bent the front reinforcement bar, so the headlight doesn’t sit quite right, but the car is in otherwise excellent condition. Low miles(123,000), maintained at a toyota dealership, no smoking, perfect condition interior. It gets 24mpg in the city, and still has all the stock parts/not modified at all.

It is a 1996 Toyota Camry LE sedan

A: $700.00

Q: 1996 toyota camry check engine light on and code is p0770?
I have 1996 toyota camry and the check engine light on with the code p0770 more then 6 months. It ran 100500 k miles. after viewing the forums I flushed the transmission fluid. But still the light is on. Please suggest me how I can get resolved this problem and where I can approach ?.
Yes the car is running good condition no issue. the problem is that i need to pass the emission test that I have to fix it.

A: Mad Jack is right about the “solenoid E malfunction”. i dont think he is right about a complete trans overhaul. Either one valve or one solenoid (E) is bad or plugged up. A good transmission tech should be able to drop the pan and get to the valve and solenoid pretty easy (there are several). check it, clean it or replace it. i think this is the valve that puts the trans into lock up mode over 50 mph. trans will still operate ok – it just wont go into full lock. If it locks up and wont unlock it couldnt shift or even move right. Beware that most trans shops dont really “work” on transmissions – they just want to flip in a rebuilt for a couple grand – that is all they know how to do. you have to find a real trans tech or look up the stuff yourself. if you get a service manual it is pretty staright forward.

Q: Why do I hear a loud bang noise from rear of my 1996 toyota camry on small bumps?
I’ve been hearing a loud banging noise every time my 1996 toyota camry hits even the smallest bump. The noise comes from rear side and it feels like my whole car pounds against the road? what can be the issue?

A: I’m no mechanic, I just play one on TV.

Sounds like the shocks are bad to me!

Q: how much would it cost to replace cv boot on a 1996 toyota camry?
while putting in new break pads, my son noticed cv boot needed replacing. being lazy he put the new one on over the old one. is this as stupid as i think? how much will it cost for a mechanic to do it? 1996 toyota camry 4 cyl.

A: Probably around $300. Lots of labor involved. Let it go until the joint is trashed and have the whole axle replaced. Won’t cost much more. Maybe it will last until the rest of the car craps out with the split style boot on it.

Q: Do 1996 Toyota Camry stock stereo have connection for amplifier?
I have a 2 channel amplifier and was wondering if i can connect it to a 1996 Toyota Camry stock stereo?

A: all you need is an RCA jack and the remote wire.
if you wanna keep the stock stereo just buy an adapter.

Q: where can i get the gold “CAMRY” letters for the back of a 1996 toyota camry coupe?
I recently bought a 1996 Toyota Camry coupe that is missing the back letters on the trunk lid. Does anyone know where I can get these in gold?
I already called teh dealership and they told me that I have to buy the entire trunk lid, which would cost over $300.

A: I do not beleive they come in gold, but rather in chrome. There should be someone in your town to gold plate the emblems. This is what most dealerships do.

Q: How much does wiring job cost for a radio, clock, side mirrors on 1996 Toyota Camry cost?
I have a 1996 Toyota Camry LE and my son put a penny in the cigarette outlet when the car was off. The clock, radio, side mirrors(powered), and cig lighter are completely out. I’ve replaced all the 15’s and the one 20A fuses. And it still doesn’t work so now I’m thinking it’s a wiring problem. Anyone know of the cost for said job. Thank you ^_^

A: Pick up a Haynes or Chilton’s shop manual, then review the wiring diagram for that circuit. It is possible that it blew a fusible link, or a fuse you have not located. Very unlikely that the wiring is damaged, that’s what the fuses protect. An inexpensive Volt-ohm meter or 12V test light might prove handy.

Q: 1996 toyota camry. What kind of motor oil does it use?and how many qts does it use?
I just purchased a 1996 Toyota Camry without a Owner’s Manual.So i’m looking for informations regarding Motor Oil.What’s weight?Such as 5W-30,30W-40 or others.Thx.

A: I have a 93 and we use 10-30 and it takes 5 quarts, mine is a four cylinder.

Q: 1996 Toyota Camry V6 XLE starter problems?
I have a 1996 Camry, V6 XLE with about 175k miles on the clock. Recently when I started the car in the morning to go to work, the starter worked but it kept ‘clicking’ as the engine started. I was concerned so I turned the engine off, but the starter was still ‘clicking’. I had to take the key out of the ignition and disconnect the battery for the ‘clicking’ to stop. I recently bought a replacement starter, but I am wondering the cause of this problem as well as if there are any additional parts I may need to purchase to fix this problem. My boyfriend (an amateur mechanic) keeps telling me that I need to buy a new ignition switch or an igntition lock column. Every mechanic I have talked to over the phone says that I need a new starter, but I am not sure who to believe. Any ideas??

A: I had the same thing happen to me in a 1998 Suburban after I had bought a new battery for it. I didn’t think it was the starter or the solenoid because the clicking sound was coming from the steering column. It turned out to be the ignition lock cylinder, about $60.00 plus labor.

Q: My 1996 toyota camry 4 dr sedan check engine light is on due to trouble codes p0115/p0340. How do I fix this?
My 1996 toyota camry 4 dr sedan check engine light is on due to trouble codes p0115/p0340. How do I fix this problem. What parts do I have to purchased to fix the problem.

A: I have an 88 toyota pickup and had the same problem with the engine light. Try taking the positive battery cable off for a few seconds and then put it back on and see if that does the trick. Not too sure though, since it’s newer than mine.

Q: wat can i use to make my own side skirts for my 1996 toyota camry?
i recently bought a full body kit for my 1996 toyota camry 4 dr. but i think the side skirts look pretty ugly.. im on a low budget and i was wonder where i can buy the material to make my own at home?? n wat will i need? please help. thanks

A: Well….. Fiberglass is a fairly cheap material that a lot of Body Kits use.

But it requires you to make a mold then lay Mat down, then resin.

It’s very messy and something as large as a Side Skirt will cost a pretty good amount in Materials, plus the cost of the mold (that you’ll most likely destroy in the process.).

You might have to buy new ones you like better. It will probally be cheaper in the long run.

Q: I NEED HELP FINDING A CHEAP BODY KIT FOR MY 1996 TOYOTA CAMRY?
does anyone know where i can find a very cheap full body kit for my 1996 4 door toyota camry? i searched the internet for some but they were just over my budget. please help me!

A: Try JC Whitney Co, the might have them

Q: Does anyone know how I would find out how much tags will be for a 1996 Toyota Camry in the state of Colorado?
Does anyone know how I would find out how much tags will be for a 1996 Toyota Camry in the state of Colorado, OR know how much it will be themselves? I live in Arapahoe county if that makes any difference.

A: Go to www.mv.state.co.us

Q: 1996 toyota camry with shortage problem?
i have 1996 toyota camry,on my camry everytime i turn the ac my ac fuse keep blowing than i put another compressor in it still doing the same thing.i put a 40 size fuse in it it hasnt blown yet but i know its not right put wron size fuse..what do you think i should do???

i think there is a shortage

A: Take out the oversized fuse!!! By doing this you risk further damage, in the worst case a fire. You probably have a short circuit or perhaps a faulty connection. Short circuits are not easy to find, I suggest you talk to your mechanic – probably the one that replaced your compressor since that did not solve the problem.

Q: My 1969 Corvette–What size aftermarket speakers will fit behind the kick panels–and what would sound best?
I’m going to be using a stock-looking radio that has upgraded/updated circuitry, and I’d like to use the best speakers that will fit the spaces behind the kick-panels in my 1969 Corvette. Is 4×6 the largest that will fit, or something larger? Since it’s just two speakers and I only want to do this once, cost is less of an issue. What would you recommend as the best-sounding modern speakers that would fit? Thank you very much!

A: Give Crutchfeild a call good people. They are you the net.

Q: What is the best way to remove paint from the body of a 1969 Corvette?
We have a 1969 Chevy Corvette and we’re in the process of restoring it. What is the best way to remove paint from the body? It is fiberglass. I’ve heard of people media blasting, sanding, stripping, etc. Whats the best and SAFEST way to remove paint from this fiberglass body? Another quick question, what color is the raw fiberglass on these cars? also if any of you have any pictures of good information that we could use to help us along the way we would really appreciate it.
what about soda blasting?

A: Sanding. Media Blasting since fiberglass is so soft, will totally screw up the surface as the media will not be able to tell the difference between paint and fiberglass. Sanding. Stripping solutions could also mess with the integrity of the fiberglass and give you more problems than you imagined. Also once you get it stripped completely, contact a good body shop that works with fiberglass, or a Corvette shop if there is one in your area. You will need to rework any areas with Spider Cracks, and older fiberglass gets dried out and needs to be reworked before you prime and paint it again. In other words, check with some shops for sure to see what you need to do to restore the life back into the fiberglass.
It is usually white or kind of cream in color. If you have black areas or anything like that, someone has probably patched it with marine materials.
I would suggest finding a Corvette Club near you and contacting them, and you will be surprised at the pointers they can give you, and where they can refer you to find other things. Parts, etc. You might be interested to know that the ‘69 also offered Seven (7) engine options. They were:

Base Engine: 350 cid with 300 horsepower @ 4800 rpm, Rochester four-barrell
Optional Engine #1: [RPO L46] 350 cid with 350 horsepower, , Rochester four-barrell
Optional Engine #2: [RPO L36] 427 cid with 390 horsepower @ 5400 rpm, Holley four-Barrell Carburetor
Optional Engine #3: [RPO L68] 427 cid with 400 horsepower, three Holley two-Barrell Carburetors
Optional Engine #4: [RPO L71] 427 cid with 435 horsepower @ 5800 rpm, three Holley two-Barrell Carburetors
Optional Engine #5: [RPO L88] 427 cid with 560 horsepower @ 6400 rpm, Holley four-Barrell Carburetor
Optional Engine #6: [RPO L89] 427 cid with 435 horsepower, Holley four-Barrell Carburetor
Optional Engine #7: [RPO LZL1] 427 cid with 430 horsepower, Holley four-Barrell Carburetor aluminum manifold

Q: Where are the vin numbers on a 1969 corvette?
I have a 1969 Corvette Stingray left to me in my father’s will. He crashed it and we were supposed to rebuild it together but now I have to myself. I can’t find the Vin’s on it, or the title, so where are vins. This car has no doors, and the vin numbers are NOT:
not on the winshield
not on the door jam
not on the engine
where are the other places they can be?

A: check on the frame …passenger side?

Q: 1969 Corvette–What size aftermarket speakers will fit behind the kick panels–and what would sound best?
I’m going to be using a stock-looking radio that has upgraded/updated circuitry, and I’d like to use the best speakers that will fit the spaces behind the kick-panels in my 1969 Corvette. Is 4×6 the largest that will fit, or something larger? Since it’s just two speakers and I only want to do this once, cost is less of an issue. What would you recommend as the best-sounding modern speakers that would fit? Thank you very much!

A: Front speakers
Dash: 4×6″
Kick Panel: 4×6″

Rear speakers
Rear Deck: 6×9

Those are the sizes. Any aftermarket speakers of htose sizes will do (Pioneer, Alpine, etc.). But since you will be hooking them up inside the trunk and not to an external amp, look for speakers that have an RMS value of 30 or lower (most speakers do not go below 20). If you do not know what I’m talking about, the RMS value is the most watts you should give a speaker for it to play at it’s full potential. You should go to www.crutchfield.com, and look up those size speakers. when shopping, pay attention to how many RMS watts it takes to power a speaker.

Q: Is soda blasting a good way to strip remove the paint on a 1969 Chevy Corvette?
I have a 1969 chevrolet corvette and we are in the process of restoring it. I have been researching different ways to remove the paint that is currently on the fiber glass body. Is soda blasting a good method? If you have any experience with soda blasting, what are the down sides to it? If it is a good method of paint removal, about how much would it cost to get the body soda blasted (everything except the front clip)?

A: Soda blast is a good way because it will not dig into the fiberglass. The only other way is to sand it all down by hand. Not sure of any down sides, never used it before. It will be harder to find someone that does soda blasting, its still kind new. Most places do sandblasting for around $60 to $90 an hour. So it could be expensive.

Q: How do you turn off the flashers in a 1969 corvette if the button is broke in the on position?
I tried removing the flasher unit on the driver side located next to the fuse panel, but my regular turn signals stopped working then as well. I was told the directional turn signals and the flashers ran off to seperate fuses but its seeming like this is not the case, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A: i have had that problem with my gmc jimmy and couldnt fix it at the time so what i did was got a screw and held it down and put the screw down inside it on the corner and tighten it alittle and it stays down and cant use it unless i remove the screw try that

Q: How much should I sell my 1969 Corvette for?
The car has less than 40,000 miles, it has all original parts with matching numbers, it’s automatic and has a new battery.

The paint job is awful, but the car has all papers and has only had one owner.

A: I will take it off your hands for 50$

Check with a classic appraisal expert, as that car restored is worth some major bank, so knowing where to set a price for it has a lot more factors than what you listed here.

Q: how do i know if i have the base 1969 corvette 350 or the L46?
i ran the numbers on the block but all the websites just say “1969 350 300/350 hp”, how can i tell if its the L46?

A: on the firewall copy down the VIN and look it up online that should tell you.

Q: I would like to buy a 1969 Corvette with a bady in a good condition. Could I find one 10 years from now?
NOT pimped, tuned, or customized.
I meant body with “bady”(sorry).

A: What’s a “bady”?

Q: What can I swap from a 2008 Corvette to a 1969 Firebird?
I have in storage a 1969 Firebird, and just recently purchased a 2008 Corvette which was salvaged due to a hit to the side. Everything is in good order other than the passenger door and roof. I would like to take advantage and swap anything possible that might be bolt on.

A: You could swap the whole drivetrain, with some modification.
That would be wicked.

Q: How do I change the power steering fluid in my 1969 Corvette? (350/300 engine)?
I just bought it, and the car is making noise when I steer. Please assume I don’t know 1) where the reservoir is and 2) what type of fluid I should be using.

Thank you very, very much!!

A: The reservoir is part of the pump.

Look on front, driver’s side of engine. Down lower, you will see a thing with a belt on it. Thats your power steering pump. Look on top of the pump and you will see a round cap. Twist it counter clockwise and it will come off.

It has a line on it that says full hot. Pour dextron/mercon auto transmission fluid in it untill the level reachs the full hot mark.

Now the noise could be a loose power steering belt, (just needs tightening) or a worn belt that needs replacing.

Could be low on fluid.

Or alot of chevys will make a noise when you turn the teering full lock (as far one way as you can) then stop once you turn wheel alittle more straight

Q: How much is my 1969 Corvette worth?
It’s all original with matching numbers.
It’s a automatic T-Top.
The paint is bad.
It’s only had one owner and has all original papers.
It has less than 30,000 miles.
The only thing new on it is the battery.

I’m just looking for a general price range.

A: Without a picture, it is hard to tell.
I would guess between $5000 and $15000
Unless you are willing to spend a lot of money on a good paint job, do not paint it to sell it.

Q: why cant i find any E3 spark plugs for my 1969 corvette?
i cant find any anywhere on the internet and my local parts store dont carry them, i can find them for the 7.0L engine but not the 350, does anyone know where i could get some? or maybe even a better spark plug? and not thoose plustar ones, i know those are good but i dont have $200 for 8 lol

A: Man, let me be very up front with you. Those high dollar fancy plugs gives NO, thats zero benifits over a std plug.

I have dyno tested and track tested every plug known to man in the past 10 years. No gains in anything, in fact lost performance with a few brands

Save your money and go with std. AC delco plugs.

I drive a as some people calls it “street driven drag car” daily, I build performance engines. Everything leaves my shop with 1 of 3 brand plugs. AC delco, NGK V power, or autolite. Also same 3 types I use in my own cars

Oh and those plustar plugs, yeah they are good and they do work, but you nor I even with my 505 HP engine would see a single gain. They are based off a NHRA top fuel hemi plug from about 10 years ago or so. They store elec energy to help fire the cyl on the next compression stroke. Ok cool, good, but our engines will burn the air/fuel mixture fully with a std ign. system and plug. You’ll see a gain only if you have 14:1 or more compression and run iut up to 8,000 rpm or more

Q: How much does a 1969 Corvette Stingray goes for?

A: i restore cars for a living, including vettes. the range of prices that this car could be worth are just about endless. if it’s a junker that is in poor shape and has had a lot of modifications, it is basicaly worth whatever you can sell it for as a parts car or it’s pieces on e-bay, (which can still be a fair amount!). if it is original and has it’s papers, good options, the skys the limit, you could be talking several hundred thousand dollars for a pristine original with the right options. or for a good restoration. contact the ncrs (national corvette restoration society) they have a web site and are considered the premier corvette group. they will be able to answer your questions a little better or put you in touch with someone who can. if you don’t want to go to that much trouble, go to your local bookstore that sells magazines and look for “old car price guide” in the auto section and thumb through it, it will give you an idea, just have all the car information ready because they’ll want to know engine size, tranny type, etc., etc.

Q: What is the average top speed of a 1969 Corvette 427, with a 4-speed manual?

A: I have an old Road & Track that says 125 MPH

Q: chevy silverado?
hey, i have a 2003 chevy silverado 1500. Im not a big fan of the front end, i prefer the 1999-2002 front end version, my question is, can i replace my current 2003 end for that of a 1999-2002 end? and if so will it be very complicated or fairly easy?

A: if you get a complete front clip hood ,fenders, grille, and all of the cosmetics it will fit just fine

Q: my 2002 chevy silverado makes a knocking noise when i first start it up after it has been sitting over night?
my 2002 chevy silverado makes a knocking noise when i first start it up after it has been sitting for about 4 hours. The knocking comes from the bottom of the motor and only lasts for about 15 seconds.

A: The first things to check are which oil filter and weight of oil you’re using. An oil filter made by someone else, even a good company, may not be quite right for your vehicle. If, for example, it doesn’t have an anti-drain-back valve, your oil passages could be empty after sitting a while.

Check the 8th character of your VIN # on the front of the drivers side of the dash, by looking through the windshield. The proper AC/Delco filters for your truck are as follows; W=PF47, V, T, or U=PF59, G=PF454.

As far as what weight of oil you are using, GM recommends 5W-30 weight for most circumstances. 10W-30 is OK if temp is always above 0 degrees F. If temp drops below -20 degrees F, Synthetic 5W-30 or 0W-30 is OK. Heavier weight (higher numbers) oils are not recommended.

Of course, these recommendations are for newer, low mileage vehicles. If you have say 100K miles or more, you may want to go one weight heavier. Many people also advise against switching to synthetic oil for higher mileage engines. Many people have their own preferences as to what brand. I like Castrol best, and BMW actually recommends it in their owners manuals.

Q: Chevy Silverado towing package and different wheels?
I have a 2007 Chevy Silverado with the Vortec Max and towing package. I want to add another type of Chevy wheels (WK-472 is the model number.) Will these other GM wheels work with the towing package?

A: wheels will not change any thing with the towing package as long as u calibrate the computer to the new tire size

Q: How do you change the plugs and wires on a 2002 Chevy Silverado?
I want to change the plugs and wires on my 2002 Chevy Silverado. It alomost has 100,000 on it. I don’t want to pay 400.00 to let someone do it when I can change them myself for under $50.00.
How long does it take to change them?

A: There are short wires that go from each coil assembly to each plug, they are replaceable, just pop the old one off and the new one on. Spark plugs are no different than ever, except that if you use the wrong style of gapper, or are careless, you could destroy the platinum or iridium electrode. Get a wire style gapper, and bend the electrode with a gapping tool, not by forcing the gapper wire into the gap. You don’t have a cap or rotor on your vehicle, so don’t worry about that. the coil over plug ignition your vehicle is equipped with uses the signal from the crank sensor and the computer to determine spark timing, not an ancient distributor. Be sure to use a small amount of dielectric compound in both ends of the plug wires to seal them from water, and keep them from sticking to the plug or coil.

Q: What is the bolt pattern on a 1987 Chevy Silverado lugs for wheels?
I have a 1987 Chevy Silverado and I’m looking at a set of rims that have a 5×5 bolt pattern will they fit?

A: 5 ON 5 PERIOD.. CADILLAC, OLDS,BUICK , PONTIACS AND IMPALAS, ASTRO VANS AND OTHER LARGER GM’S WERE ALL 5 ON 5 PERIOD.! YOU HAVE ZILLIONS OF OPTIONS FOR WHEELS !!

Q: Can you put a shift knob and a steering wheel from a 1987 Chevy Silverado on a 1994 Chevy Silverado?
I want to Switch the shift knob on my column shifter in my 1994 Chevy Silverado to a shift knob from a 1987 Silverado. Will it work? I also want to know is it possible to switch the steering wheels from the same years?

A: don’t know

Q: Will a 96 chevy silverado with the 350 vortec run without the catalytic converter?
Will a 96 chevy silverado with the 350 vortec run without the catalytic converter?
will it run at all?
will it run right?
I am just wondering if it would mess anything up i have been told you can take it off and it will run fine i have been told it wont also would it affect the the o2 sensor making the computer mess up?

A: It will run ok BUT you will have O2 sensor problems (even if you leave them hooked up) and will have CRAPPY fuel economy if you have O2 problems. There are DOZENS of companies that make performance Catalytic converters. If you want to get all you can get out of your exhaust, buy one or two if you have dual exhaust and use those.

Q: How to make a stock 1992 Chevy silverado 1500 faster?
Got a stock 92 chevy silverado 1500 for graduation. 5.7L V8, gas, automatic transmission, new engine, new radiator… What all can I do to make this truck faster/ more ballsy. It has a modified exhaust, but pipes are startin to rust so I think i should replace it. Any tips or good products to purchase?

A: 1st off people… It’s a 1992 truck.. It don’t have a carb. It will be throttle body fuel injected if still stock.

Headers, dual exhaust, good flowing mufflers, high flow cats,

Performance chip for the ECU

K&N cold air system with k&N air filter

Throttle body spacer

Aftermarket TBI intake

Aftermarket lager (600-670 cfm) throttle body

Full tune up, new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc

3.42, 3.73, or 4.10 rear gear ratio

2200-2600 rpm stall torque converter

Trans GO reprogramming kit for transmission

After that, all thats left is going inside engine.

Better flowing heads, bigger cam, more compression, etc etc

Q: How much would a 1985 K5 Chevy silverado blazer cost me?
The 1985 K5 Chevy silverado blazer has new paint and no rust. The original miles are 108,000. The engine is a 305. So what is the highest someone can charge for it?

A: They can charge whatever they want. How much will you pay? That depends on how much you want a K-5. (as well as how much others do) K-5s are pretty sought after in good shape, so they are quite a bit more expensive than a similar year Ford Bronco. If it is good paint, the running gear is in good shape, and the motor runs well I could see it going for as much as 4-5000. The typical model with a stock paint and even a bit of age damage, 15-2500.

Q: I have a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 with a 4.3 V6 engine, and was wondering what type of plow would work best?
I have a 2000 chevy silverado 1500 with a 4.3 V6 engine, and was wondering what type of snow plow would work best. I know theirs diffrent sizes and makes but does any one know what kind is right for this kind of truck.Thank you

A: You should look into a light weight fiberglass snow plow. These work great are very strong and dont rust. These plows will work better with your 4.3 V6 and last for years of normal service. These plows are also very common here in ohio. You should call around some of your local upfitters for prices.Best of luck.

Q: What kind of exhaust for a 2000 chevy silverado?
I drive a 2000 1/2 ton chevy silverado. What type of exhaust would give it a deep rumble? I don’t really want anything that’s overly loud, just a decent deep, clear sound.

A: Flowmaster.com…to see and hear the products they offer.

I would recommend the “Flowmaster Super 40 Series”, gave my 1988 Chevy Silverado a deep grawl at all rev ranges… total cost out the door was $237.00, in So Cali Orange County.

Best wishes, Happy hunting!

“/JOe

Q: How much would it cost to repair a gas tank for a 1991 chevy silverado?
I have a 1991 Chevy silverado that did not pass its smog check. I was told I’d have to replace it.

A: http://www.car-stuff.com/store/?N=9872+4294967007+1588+11921+9296 To replace your fuel tank parts and labor you should be looking at around less than $400. Best of luck with your silverado.

Q: can i change the transmission in a chevy silverado?
I was thinking about trying to attempt building the new chevy concept silverado, it has a ls7 engine, and manual transmission, which is great the only problem, the 07 silverado does not come with a manual option, so i was wondering where i could find some info on how to change the transmission of a silverado from automatic to manual.

A: First of all, AWESOME idea, according to one of our associates who does a lot of work on cars. He said the project is certainly do-able. (Our associate has an LT1 in his 1980 Jeep CJ7)

The easiest thing to do would be to take the T-56 manual out of a GTO, Trans AM, Camaro, etc and mate it to the LS7, according to our researcher. The LS7 should bolt right into the Silverado frame, as long as it came with a V-8 from the factory. Then it will be a matter of fabricating rear transmission mounts for the T-56, but that won’t be awful and that will at least get everything in the truck (a custom length rear driveshaft will almost certainly be necessary too).

For the clutch pedal assembly, start scouring junk yards for a manual Silverado and see if you can snag all of the assembly and linkage out of it for your project. Then all the clutch equipment will bolt right in. You will probably need to modify the linkage a bit, but if you’re taking on a project like this, I’m sure you’re comfortable with fabrication. There’s also the option of a hydraulic clutch.

Now, as far as making the electronics work correctly, you’ll need the computer with the LS7 and graft that into the Silverado wiring harness. This is the hardest part of the swap here. There are companies such as Fuel Injection Specialties that will build a custom wiring harness for your application, making the swap a bit easier. Good luck!
Q: What is the Difference between a 2004 and a 2005 Chevy silverado with the duramax?
I’m looking at buying a 2500HD chevy silverado with the Duramax diesel. I need to know what improvements on the engine, and anything else they may have changed.

A: No difference from 04 to 05. The big change came in 2006 with a horsepower increase and the Allison 6 speed automatic, called the Duramax Power Pack.

Q: What would help me increase my MPG in a 1998 chevy silverado?
I have a 1998 chevy silverado with a flomaster exhaust and stock everything else. I am curious as to any other ways to increase MPG. Any cold air intakes, superchips, mass air flow sensors. I need some advice from some people who have some experience in this. Any help would be appreciated.

A: you’ll have a hard time finding anything to give you better mileage, driving habits will give you the best results

Mitch

A: You won’t regret buying the WRX STI.
When you open up the throttle on the freeway and fly past anything in front of you lol. You will even give those Holden Monaro’s a run for their money.
But if it’s too expensive you will be happy with the WRX, that’s the middleman. Below Impreza WRX is just cars for the wife’s

Q: Who knows if the 2009 Subaru WRX has faulty engine builds and is prone to engine failure?
I’ve been looking at getting a 2009 Subaru WRX wagon due to its performance and winter capabilities. However, thus far over 50 people on the NASIOC site have reported engine failures; Subaru has consequently been replacing the entire turbo engine.

Recent posts suggest the faulty engines are from earlier build dates of 8/08 to 9/08. Can anyone confirm this?

Subaru has denied knowing anything of this sort.

A: There were some failures but not that many. You can’t go by what is said on NASIOC. Too many kids on there spreading shit. And yes it was in the tune. Subaru recently has been doing some funny things with the tuning. The 08 STI has the same problem too as well as the 07 STI. Nothing wrong with the build it self. Some people were just beating on the engine too much and it was causing problems but there have been service bulletins about it and as far as I know, it’s not an issue anymore. Just ask if the car you are looking at either has a build date after the specified time or has had a reflash done to fix any problems. It should say in the thread on NASIOC what months were bad. Thing you need to know is, the new WRX’s have been selling pretty well but you never hear people posting about having no problems. Only people who have had a problem post and it spreads and looks like an epidemic. And it’s not that the dealer you spoke to is in denial. It’s very possible that they have never had one brought in for the problem. Like I said, the percent of failures compared to the units sold is very small.

Q: What car should I get 350z or subaru wrx sti?
I am 16 years old and my dad bought a 2004 350z. I really had no influence on this buy. I was looking at 2005 subaru wrx sti. I dont know which to get because I like the 350z but it only has 2 seats while the wrx has 5. Please tell me which one you would choose, and the + and – of each car.

A: depends what youre looking for…

the STI is faster, has AWD for better handling… smaller engine but with a turbo which has a few advantages… like if youre not making boost (turbo doesnt kick in till like 2500 rpms) youll be using less gas (but good luck trying NOT to go fast in that car)… like you said seats 5, 4 doors etc etc

the 350 is a sexy looking car… lower, lighter, smaller… powerful v6, nice interior and sound system (that bose is amazing)…

like i said it all depends on what youre looking for.. if you want the looks and the fun of RWD go for the 350

if you want the rally type experience: fast, fun, challenging… go with the STI.. and as far as perfomance mods go, it’ll be easier to make the STI faster because its already turbo’d… you want more power out the 350, the largest gains in HP will come from forced induction

now ive got to do the responsible thing and give you a little pep talk… first off youre only 16 and im 90% sure you wont be paying for this car all by yourself… if i were you id get a beater car that you can learn to drive on (and not get too upset when you damage it)… both the cars youre looking at are beasts and take experience to drive, so that should probably be your first priority

Q: Where is the best insurance company to insure a subaru wrx turbo?
Im 40 years old and am going to be buying a subaru wrx turbo ,can anyone suggest a good insurance company and how much roughly would it be to insure it fully comp .THANKS .

A: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/compare-cheap-car-insurance

They show you a method to search just about every insurer.

I’ve just gone with Swiftcover. Cheap *and* online.

Q: Is it easy to take a turbo off a subaru wrx?
im asking this because i might get a 97′ subaru wrx wagon.Due to victorian laws i cant drive it with a turbo, so is it easy to take it off? and if i do, do i have to take the intercooler off as well?

Also, would this be expensive or a relatively cheap job?

A: You must be in the UK. I suspect it might be a difficult task due to the fact that you’d have to set up the engine to run without the turbo. I would find a very skilled mechanic or take it to a Subaru dealer.

Q: how much would i cost to rebuild a 2007 subaru wrx sti engine?
I’m planning on owning a 2007 subaru wrx or an sti. How much is maintenance with moderate driving not racing or pushing the car to hard, i don’t drive to crazy. My question and my real answer i’m looking for is how much if it happened would a engine rebuild price be and also transmission rebuild.

A: For that car if you had to rebuild the engine and transmission together at once the car would be effectively totaled. Rebuilds on turbocharged boxer engines are outrageously expensive, and when you add in a 4 wheel drive transmission you’d be looking at a total of around $12,000 US.

Q: In what years do Subaru wrx sedans come with an automatic transmission?
I have $10000 to get a car and am thinking about getting a used Subaru wrx because ive heard they’re fast and pretty comfortable.Would buying a manual Subaru make that much of a difference?

A: They have made automatic WRX’s through the 07 model years. From 08 they were called the Impreza GT for some reason. The manual transmission will have an advantage when accelerating from a standstill but from there the longer gears and no loss of boost between shifts can give the auto an advantage. Really it just depends on what you want. An automatic WRX is still way more fun to drive than any other automatic import. I had an auto 02 and after cahnging the down pipe and re flashing it, it really woke up. But my current 5 speed gives much better control of the power band when driving aggressively. I say go out and drive one. If you like it, get it. The auto also has a better AWD system for snowy conditions if you have winters where you live.

Q: What oil should I use in a 1997 Subaru WRX engine?
I have a 1997 Subaru WRX, not sure if it is a STi, and don’t know what oil to use! I don’t mind on what brand it is, just want to know what grade is best!
It has a ZeroSport computer from Japan in it, and runs 18 pound boost. Does that make any difference?

A: Mobil 1 is the best! It is expensive but well worth it. You get better gas mileage and more performance out of your car. A win win is what I say.

use man. req. like 5/20 or 5w/30 they sell for all makes

Q: What does it take to convert a Subaru Wrx to natural gas?
I have an 03 Subaru WRX and I need to know what parts I need, how much they cost, and if i can figure out how to do it myself to convert my vehicle to natural gas.

A: go to your natural gas outlet and tell them for what car

Q: What is the difference between the 2009 Subaru WRX Base model and the Premium model?
What is the difference between the 2009 Subaru WRX Base model and the Premium model? I would like a complete list of all the differences…

A: Base model: $24,995 MSRP
Premium model: $27,495 MSRP. The WRX Premium adds a power moonroof, 10-speaker, 6-disc audio system with auxiliary input and heated front seats, side mirrors and windshield wiper de-icer. Check with a dealer for more details.

Michael B: There are three “2009″ WRX models: Base, Premium, and STI. The question did not ask about the STI. You are describing the 04-07 models.

Q: What is the offset for the wheels on a 2002 Subaru Impreza WRX Wagon?
I own a 2002 Subaru WRX Wagon and I think it’s time for a new set of wheels. I need to know what the offset is so I can buy me a new set. Also, would rims with an offset of 42 mm fit (securely) on my car? Thanks.

A: I believe the offset is 55mm. Check out tire rack to shop for wheels. They will list the offset to give you an idea of what will fit properly. 42mm may be pushing it, I see many at 48 or 50mm.

Q: Should I buy a 05 subaru wrx with 81k miles ? Is too much miles a red flag ?
I want to buy this 05 Subaru WRX, but it has 81000 miles on it, thats an average of 40k miles per year should I be concerned? what type of questions should I ask the sales man? Blue book value on the car is $17400 and the dealer asking price is $14999. Is that a good price? Your Advice would be greatly appreciated ! Thanks !
The car is at a deler so I dont know who previously owned it.

A: You can ask the salesman who the previous owner was, it will take him 2 minutes to check the deal jacket in the office. resistance here would be a red flag for me. It may have been on the road closer to 3 1/2 years.

sporty turbo car……would want to determined what kind of life it had…..are stock tires replaced with cheap dealer installed ones?

Look at paint closely…give it a good test drive, he may want to take it around the block once, but i’d want to hear that motor as it builds to near red line, feel it at 70 75 on the hiway any vibrations…listen

does shifter go into gear fast and smooth? Does the clutch grab the friction plate like a pit bull, or can you feel it let go a little.

engage the brakes at different speeds, does the pedal go down really far., its there any wheel shake.

Ok ….this is a deal where a $50 mechanic inspection is a good idea. The mileage is high but not a deal breaker, Subies are tuff little buggers.

I would ABSOLUTLY bargain this guy to the wall if i wanted that car……ready for Bear…..We don’t know what $ he has in it.

Q: Where can I find a Subaru WRX Engine for cheap?
I have a 2002 Subaru WRX and I need to replace the Engine. Does anyone know where I can find one (used is okay) in good condition with not too many miles on it in the Chicagoland area or online?
okay yeah I know ebay and craigslist, i’m talkin about other places that aren’t so obvious.
Oh! And some guy I work with was telling me about some website that I guess imports used engines from japan because they discard them or something like that after a certain amount of miles due to some law…does anyone know what he’s talking about lol

A: Check craigslist or forums below. There is one near me for $1500 with 40k miles. 4 hours away from you though.

Q: How much for a 2007 subaru wrx sti engine and where to get it?
How much for a 2007 subaru wrx sti engine and where can i get it brand new or used? And how much should labor be for swapping the new one in

A: I can’t give you an exact dollar figure but I would imagine it is quite expensive. This engine gets worse gas mileage then most V8’s, I don’t know if that is of any concern to you. To answer your question you may want to contact Subaru of America.

Hey “tonuprocker”, whatever that means? Stop being so foolish to believe everything that Subaru publishes, using unrealistic testing parameters! Try spending some time reading “unbiased” publications that publish real world WRX mileage at no more then 17-19 MPG on average using “premium” fuel no less.

Q: What should i expect to get by installing a HKS Down Pipe to my 2004 Subaru WRX?
I just bought a HKS Downpipe for my 2004 Subaru WRX. What can i expect to gain out of the installment?
For Example:
Will i get more horsepower? If i do get more horsepower, how much horsepower should i be expecting to get out of it?
Will it sound louder?

A: about 15-20 hp with out a ecu tune. but you need to watch out for boost spikes.

A great and must read article: 67 chevelle for sale

Q: Are there any 67 chevelle malibu fans in the audience?
I have one, but I need a transmission. It has a rebuilt 350 in it. Where is a good place to get a transmission?

A: I,am I rode in a 1967 Chevy Chevelle with an SS 396 with an ex- neighbor friend of mine and that car was fast. He built it into a fast car himself. He never lost a race in the streets and I believe it!

Q: I need to know basically how to convert my 67 Chevelle from automatic to standard transmission.?
It presently has a 454c.i. with a TH350 tranny.

A: You ll need a new tranny obviously, a new bell housing, the pedals, all the shifter linkage coming from the shifter going all the way out to the tranny, a new radiator (to run your trans lines into) possibly a different trans crossmember and depending on the setup you might have to have your drive shaft lengthened or shortened, possibly a new yolk too ..spline might be different on the new tail shaft. You can order the pedals, the linkage, the new radiator the bell housing and (if you need it) the new cross member from classicindustries.com yearone.com and there are several other online vender’s for those cars on the web just google chevelle parts and you ll find them

Q: Can anyone tell me what these numbers on my 67 chevelle mean?
Door panel numbers are 13669 7Z137136. and firewall numbers are D4A ST 67-13669 BF01475
TR 782 CC 35840 040110

A: “13669″…the 1 means it’s a Chevrolet…the 36 means it’s a Malibu, Custom. El Camino, or wagon…and the 69 means it’s a 4 door sedan.

“7Z137136″….the 7 is the model year meaning it’s a 67…the Z indicates it was produced in Fremont, California…the remaining numbers are the sequence code for that factory. Basically a serial number.

“D4A” is the month and week it was produced..the 4 is the month of April and the A indicates the first week.

“ST 67-13669″ is the year and model number and decodes sames as door tag.

“BF01475″ is the manufacturing plant and number used by that plant to track it during production. BF meaning of course Fremont, California.

“TR 782 CC 35840 040110″…the TR indicates trim codes and 782 means it had a medium gold bench seat interior…CC is the color code…the first C is the upper color and the second C is the lower color…in this case the car was all white.

There was no explanation for the remaining numbers but I suspect they may be some sort of sequence/tracking code specific to the plant in which the car was produced.

Q: interchangeable suspension parts for 67 chevelle?
i have a 67 chevelle and want to upgrade to disc brakes looking for something i can bolt right on but dont know what years or what cars that would be interchangeable thanks

A: If you are looking for stock front disk brakes then I believe the 66 – 67 Chevelle SS and same year El Camino could be ordered with front disks. However, not sure any other models would swap. Therefore, you might look for those parts either from salvage yards with muscle car era autos, Craigslist, or auto swap meets.

However, there are lots of places with make after market disk brake kits for 67 Chevelle such as NPD, Year One, etc. Do an online search and you can pull up all types of replacement brake kits.

Q: chevy 454 fits on my 67 chevelle?
chevy 454 fits on my 67 chevelle

A: With $$$$$$, determination, a cutting torch and a BFH most any engine can be made to fit in any car. Whether that is a good or economical choice is another matter.

Q: What model year Chevelle do you all prefer I personally like the 67 and 70 and 72?
let me know why you like that model year, I like the 67 because me dad had one when I was small. Also the styling and just great feel of the car.

A: 1970.

Pinnacle year of the muscle cars.

1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6
Thee definition of a muscle car.

The 1967 did have better styling though…

Q: will headers that fit a 67 chevelle fit a 75 camaro?

A: yes if the engine is a chevy v8,

Q: Which car is a better investment; an original 65, 66 or 67 Chevy Chevelle Malibu non-SS convertible?

A: If the 1965 is a big block, thats the best investment. They did not make many big block convertibles in 1965. But you really can’t go wrong with any of those years. Matching engine numbers and any documentation makes the car more investment worthy.

Q: which is better, the ‘67 chevelle or the ‘70?
I’ve been trying to figure out which one to buy and I was wondering if when you answer if you could back up your answer of why

A: Personal taste. Both are great years…. actually all old Chevelles are great.

Q: true or False?i own ‘67 chevelle someone said that my ignition is wired wrong and that steps down to 6Vfrom12V
Is this true? it didnt seem right to me
The engine is a 327

A: The ONLY thing that runs at less than 12 volts is the ignition coil while the engine is running.
It’s wired through a ballast resistor to reduce the operating voltage to 9 volts.

ADDED:
The term also refers to an automobile engine component that lowers the supply voltage to the ignition system after the engine has been started. Because cranking the engine causes a very heavy load on the battery, the system voltage can drop quite low during cranking. To allow the engine to start, the ignition system must be designed to operate on this lower voltage. But once cranking is completed, the normal operating voltage is regained; this voltage would overload the ignition system. To avoid this problem, a ballast resistor is inserted in series with the supply voltage feeding the ignition system. Occasionally, this ballast resistor will fail and the classic symptom of this failure is that the engine runs while being cranked (while the resistor is bypassed) but stalls immediately when cranking ceases (and the resistor is reinserted in the circuit).

Modern electronic ignition systems do not require a ballast resistor as they are flexible enough to operate on the low cranking voltage or the ordinary operating voltage.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballast_(electrical)

Q: i need some help trying to find a website that sells chassis/frames for a 67 chevelle?

A: It would help to know what you’re really looking for. Is the frame damaged and in need of replacement? Or, are you looking for a subframe for racing purposes?

Q: 94 C/K 1500 or 67 Chevelle?
Both have auto trans and small block V-8’s

Truck has A/C (which i hardly use), a stock radio and sound system. But i would wanna up grade the sound system, add a small body lift, roll bar in back and brush guard.

Truck is 3k, idk how much extras would be. and its 140k miles

Chevelle has been rebuilt inside and out, but is pretty basic. No A/C or sound system period. I would be putting in harness seat belts in front and sound system.

Cost: 5500, plus system and safety belts.

Which one do you think would be the better choice and cheapest?

A: this completely depend,s on what you want & what your going to use it for?…67 chevelle is a classic car.if restored would be worth a lot & is not a good idea for a daily driver…a 94 pickup truck is not exactly a collector edition & would be used for more than a mid sized car…they are 2 completely different entity,s…the cheapest is obvious…3K as opposed to more than 5K….better choice?…depend,s on what you want & are going do use it for.

Q: fenders from chevelle 66 fit on chevelle 67 , can someone answer please?

A: You could do an entire 66 front clip to a 67, but just fenders no. Different body lines, headlight light treatment, grill, hood, etc. Compare these pictures and you will see how the headlight is exposed on the 66 and hooded on the 67. http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/chevrolet-chevelle/images/chevrolet-chevelle-1966a.jpg

http://www.musclecarclub.com/musclecars/chevrolet-chevelle/images/chevrolet-chevelle-1967a.jpg

Q: Any charitable-minded Christian out there who wants to give me their ‘67 Chevelle since you’re gonna be…
…raptured away anyway?

Thanks in advance:-)
Absolutely, JellyBean. BTW, why does that guy right above you need my house when he’s gonna be in heaven?

A: ROFL!!! Can I borrow it when you arent using it?

Q: Upgrading my 67 chevelle w/327 small block chevy?
i have a rebuilt 327 sm bl. 30 over. Rv cam. Edelbrock high flow intake. holley 750cfm. it purrs quite nicely but i think i could get a little more out of her but keep it reletivy at 10-15 mph. has a 2speed powerglide and i believe 3.80 rear end what would be a good setup. what is sad is i cant even get it to burnout and it already a 275hp. how can i fix that.

A: Put a 4:11 rear in it,that thing will be a rocket, also the power Glide 2 is a very good tranny,if you put a shift kit in it.A lot of people don’t like the 2 speed power glide but with a kit it’s un real.

A great and must read article: vw beetle for sale

Q: VW beetle?
I am thinking about buying a used VW Beetle, 2003-2006 with low mileage, convertible. Can anyone share their opinions on these cars? How is the gas mileage? We need a second car, I have an Aztek and a DEAD Ford Explorer. Comments? Thoughts? Thanks!

A: I have turbo 2003 yellow beetle, and I absolutely love it! I was tempted to get the convertible at first, but I decided against it because:
1) It has a 2 out of 5 star safety rating. It’s a small car, so if you replace the dome (which absorbs the most impact like a school bus dome) with fabric, it really doesn’t help you too much!
2) The gas mileage is not as good

Overall the user ratings for the VW convertible have been relatively good, and the only problem is a minor window problem.
Also, consider that it’s still a german car, so matienance is more expensive for EVERYTHING.
I would consider getting the regular beetle as well. I didn’t think I would ever get the regular, but I love him! He’s my baby! Also think about getting the regular, turbo, or diesel. Turbo definitely takes more gas, but boy is it fun! It’s a classic/fun car designed for Porsche. But however, if you go the convertible route, that’s fun as well!

Q: VW Beetle?
Currently I have a 89 honda civic, and its on its last limbs, i am thinking of getting a VW Beetle(Ive always wanted one), used…..

any insights on this car?? is it a good car??

A: If you can afford the upkeep of a foreign made car…go for it.
They do cost a little more for preventative maintenance.
I have a VW Jetta TDI Wagon, 2005 model, bought new.
Love it, but I did NOT buy it used, didn’t want someone else’s used headache.
Drove a beetle once, not bad, fuel economy average for size and all.
Check out crash ratings and etc. before finalizing your decision. Check insurance rates.
I believe side crash impact ratings are lower on the Beetle.
Be careful, take your time and test drive, check out information thoroughly about the Beetle models, then decide.

Q: vw beetle?
please help me find an automatic blue or green beetle somewhere in colorado for less that $7,500 i’ve looked everywhere and i’ve only found one on craigslist with way to many miles. pleaaaase and thanks!
New. sorry =]

A: You MAY find a VW Bug in this price range but the upkeep will bust your budget. The Bugs need specialized care at the dealership. I have a 2002 and got some water in my gas and spent $900 getting the car fixed. This is the first car I’ve ever seen that is set up so you cannot change your own oil. The battery STARTS at $200. No standard part fits the Beetle, it takes an odd tire size, premium oil and if you get a TURBO bug it takes PREMIUM gas and will kill you at the gas pump.
All and all I love my bug, it’s adorable. But it’s expensive and I don’t know if I had to do it all over again if I would get a VW Bug.

Q: Is a VW Beetle Convertible suitable for me and my 2 year old?
I really want a VW Beetle convertible for me and my Daughter. Has any one had a convertible and a small child. Do you recommend it? What r the pros and cons….
I currently drive a Chevy Alanche, its just me, my daughter and mys husband, he has his own toy car and i think maybe the beetle would be nice for me and my daughter for late summer evening rides.

A: I’ve actually found the Beetles to be pretty roomy on the inside (more space than a mini for sure). if you’re taking a booster seat in and out of the car a lot the two door aspect might be a pain but if you leave it in it’d be fine, plus soon enough she’ll be sitting in a normal seat anyway so it’d be a temporary situation.

They’re very safe cars though and if you maintain it it’ll run very well for a while.

They have a decent amount of space in the trunk. I wouldn’t have problem fitting all my groceries in it.

Q: How do you turn a vw beetle into an automatic and if there is a certain part then what would that be?
I have a 71 vw beetle.
Not too fond of driving a stick.
I have a 71 vw beetle.
Im not too into the whole stickshift thing.
Along with my question…How much would converting it approximately be?

A: Yes it is possible and not too difficult but it would be expensive.

If you do your sums correctly you will find it cheaper to sell the car and buy an auto rather than carrying out the conversion.

You probably will find info on this topic on the following web site

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/

Q: What is the best way to soundproof a classic vw beetle?
I have a 1971 vw beetle. It has been restored by the last owner and there seems to be little soundproofing in the engine bay and there is not much on the inside. Can anyone recommend sites/give advice?

A: Hit up your local body shop supply joint for “Q-Pads”. They’re expensive, but they work great. Another cheaper suggestion is rubberized undercoating.
In my last Bug, I hosed down the firewall with undercoat, put on a layer of pads, then covered them with aluminum heat matting for a nice finished look. I also put pads on the inside, under the rug lining the storage bay behind the rear seat. Get under the seat as well. Undercoat inside the doors and rear side panels behind the interior panels. Hose down under the car too. Not just the floorboards, but under the trunk, fuel tank & all 4 fenders. Upgrade the carpets with some sort of thin pad (woven or foam) beneath. A new muffler couldn’t hurt. Make sure your tailpipes are correctly adjusted (No, I’m not kidding. Adjusting them to the correct length reduces noise & sets the correct amount of back pressure).
Spray glue foam pad to the roof panel between it & the headliner. Shoot spray foam (Great Stuff) into the hollow rocker panels & roof ribs. If you do all this, you’ll add probably 30 pounds to the car, but it’ll be a lot quieter.
Remember: these cars (for all the amazing engineering that went into them) are basically just tin cans. They were designed & built to be inexpensive, not quiet & luxurious. Lots of hollow spaces. The slightest chirp or rattle gets amplified inside them.

Q: 2005 VW Beetle – How can I get rid of the seatbelt warning?
The seatbelt warning sound in the 2005 VW Beetle is the most annoying thing I have ever heard! It even comes on while the car is OFF! I have searched forums for anyone who may know how to stop this warning sound, or at least muffle it, and I have yet to find an answer. Any answers, suggestions or references will be greatly appreciated.

A: If you mean the seatbelt chime do as one of the other guys told you by disconnecting the battery but in addition, check all fuses including engine fuses but I doubt its that. Also get someone to scan your computer with an obd 2 or i believe its a CAN scanner cable now connected to a computer scanner or get the VW dealer to scan it or if you know somebody that has VAG COM software ask them to run diagnostics and then ask them to turn off the seatbelt chime..YES ITS POSSIBLE ..good luck!
Oh and to the guy above the chime is in the dash not in the speaker..don’t ask why or how but its just so.

Q: How do I convert a VW beetle from single circuit master cylinder to dual circuit?
How do I convert a 61 VW Beetle from single circuit master cylinder to dual circuit? I don’t understand the residual vs non-residual type? Is it a straight up swap of the master cylinder? I am putting in new metal lines and am told that a dual circuit is a good idea?

Many thanks

A: you might want to go to a wrecking yard an see how it was done on the super beetle. I believe there is more to it than just a master cylinder swap- proportioning valve comes to mind.

Q: How do you differentiate a german mad vw bug from a mexican made vw beetle?
I want to buy a vw beetle but I wanted a german made one. pls help me to identify it.

A: Most early VWs you find will be German made. Mexican beetles maintained the 58-64 body style up to 1970, so that should be a dead giveaway. Although bugs were made in Mexico up to recent years, you won’t find any in the US after 1979 (i believe), and they cannot be registered because of safety regulations.

Q: Can a convertable part of a VW beetle be changed of painted?
How much would it cost?
Also how much would it cost to get a nice paint job for a VW beetle?

A: £450 for the roof

my respray on my karmann ghia is £2000

Q: How many miles does a typical VW Beetle maintain?
I’m looking for a VW New Beetle(not the classic) and I’m hoping to find a used one that will last me through my last year of high school and college. And I need to know how many miles a Beetle’s engine can take before needing serious work?

A: It’s kind of luck of the draw. If you can find a diesel one, the engine will last longer. I have a diesel Jetta (same engine as the diesel Beetle) with 172,000 miles on it and it runs fine. And the increased mpg (I’m getting 47 on the highway) will way more than compensate for the slightly higher cost of diesel fuel and the extra cost of the car compared to a gas one.

But, lots of little stuff breaks on VWs. Things like the sensors to tell if a door or the trunk is open, etc. It’s pretty annoying, because it seems like there’s always *something* minor wrong. I’m not basing this off of just my own experience – I have 5 friends with VWs (4 of them also have diesels) and I read www.tdiclub.com a fair bit.

Q: What is the best laptop mount for the new VW Beetle?
I need to mount my laptop (Panasonic toughbook) in the new VW Beetle, however I haven’t been able to find one that is just right for my needs. I tried the new Ram Mount with the ball and the legs are good and everything else on it is find except the ball. It slips way too often. Anyone have something better? What do PSE&G or the police cars use?

A: Try Jottodesk.com
I got the universal mount. Works great and VERY stable and strong.

Q: How do you tell the year model on a vw beetle?
I have just recently bought a vw beetle with a monza body kit fibreglass gaurds etc and it has no compliance plate and the chassis number is 5425107 and it is a type 2 chassis if you could help me in ths matter it would be greatly appreciated

A: The third digit indicated year yours could possibley be a 1952==1962==1972 would need to see vehicle to know which one. If it has reduction gears that rules out 1972.
Also a beetle is a type one vehicle. Type 2 is bus truck camper or van. However a typee 2 motor is basically the same as type 1.

Q: 1969 vw beetle, 45,000 original miles and in good condition. How much is it worth?
1969 VW Beetle, 45,000 original miles and in good condition. How much is it worth?

A: I don’t know about the mileage unless you can document it, since a 40 year old car would likely have had the spedo turn over more then a couple of times. Even in storage, there are parts of the bug that simply wear out by exposure (like rubber pieces, dashboards, headliners, etc.. )

So lets just say that it is a 69 bug in very excellent condition.

Assuming no rust.. good paint no rust…good motor… no rust… good transmission.. no rust … good interior and a good floor pan (no holes under the battery) oh, and in case I forgot to mention it , no rust…

Show cars of that vintage bring in between $12,000 and $14,000 (use eBay and search for SOLD vw bugs to get a good idea),

Extremely Good but daily driver bugs bring at least $5,000 up to about $8 unless you have a convertible in which case add about $2500 to the top end.

Hope that helps…

Q: Is it possible to switch a VW Beetle (Old) from manual to automatic? How much would it cost?
I want to buy a VW Beetle, one of the ones from the late 60s and early 70s but I am a little worried about driving an automatic car. If it is possible I still don’t think I would be able to pay a fortune to have it switched. Thanks

A: Tehnically, it is possible…so you could…but it would require enough custom work that Bill Gates would have to work out a payment play.

A great and must read article: 1959 cadillac for sale

Q: Would the value of a 1959 Cadillac increase soon?
I’m planning on purchasing a 1959 Cadillac and then selling it in the future to make a good profit. How much do you think it would be worth in the future? Do you think $10,000 would be enough to buy a 59 Caddy? Sources?

A: your in the wrong business!
very very unlikly that you will make profit from any cars…
if you consider that if you purchase a car for 10k…lets say in 20 years its now worth 20k.
well you just paid 20yrs of insurance…maintnance…storage.. etc.. so your measly 10k over a 20 yr period doesnt look so good. if you sell lemonade outside for 0.50c over the next 20 years…you will make more profit that way.

i dont mean to offend you either…im just trying to show you..

Q: where do i find the engine number in my cadillac 1959?
I have an 1959 cadillac and I need to find the “engine” number just like how a car has a VIN number i need to somehow find the engine number. no stupid comments please.

thanks for answers.

A: I don’t know but your question brings back old memories for me. In 1959 a friend of mine’s father bought an paid cash for a new 1959 Cadillac. The total cost was $5,700.00. How times have changed. The 1959 Cadillac was really popular with its fins and everything…

Q: What would you do if you saw a 1959 Cadillac and a 1959 Chevrolet Impala parked next to each other?
What would your response be? Would it bring back any memories?

A: The Cadillac would say to the Chevrolet ” What’s got your fins down?”

Q: Would I still be pulled over if my 1959 Cadillac/Chevrolet had a terrible exhaust leak?
If a massive cloud of exhaust was coming from my old car would I still be entitled to be pulled over by you coppers? Can you really report my solidly pre-smog vehicles?

A: If you’re talking about excessive vehicle emissions where your car’s engine is badly worn or out of tune and is belching out a big cloud of smoke and choking everybody behind you, a cop will likely give you a hard time regardless of what year your car was manufactured. Actual policy varies by state and county. For instance, in California even classic automobiles must comply with strict emissions standards. The fact is that even a 1959 era car engine without modern emissions controls shouldn’t produce much smoke if it’s in good condition. And, really, how many cars do you still see out on the road that are actually that old anyway? This just isn’t a significant problem.

Q: What would happen if you took a 1959 Cadillac to a GM dealer for repairs?
What would they do? Would they understand what that strange object on top of the intake manifold or would they search for where the engine computer is? Would they wonder if its even an automobile or would they simply scratch their heads?
what that strange object on top of the intake manifold is*

A: I worked for a cadi dealer for several years and we had a customer who had a 1956 cadi. We did all the work on it. If someone brought in something your company did not work on any more would you know what to do with it. Stop being so narrow minded. A lot of techs own old cars themselves and are well educated. Take your grease monkey mentality elsewhere and give us the respect we deserve.

Q: What would you do if you called a mobile mechanic and they came in a 1959 Cadillac or Chevrolet Impala?
What would go through your mind? What assumptions would be drawn? Would you think ill or good of them?

A: Wouldn’t really bother me what car they arrived in as long as they were good at what they were doing, although driving such an old car might actually make me trust them more, ‘cos obviously if they are able to keep such an old car still running now then they must be good at the job.

My friend drives round in a series 1 Land Rover and I always trust her when asking questions about my modern day Nissan Note, the main reason I trust her more than other people is because I know that if she knows a lot about keeping very old Land Rovers on the road then she must be really good at how the insides of cars work.

Unlike these modern technicians that just plug a computer in and go “oh computer says you got no problem so nothing I can do”.

Q: Does anyone make a fiberglass body for the 1958 or 1959 Cadillac?
I want to drive my own Caddy but can’t afford an original. I have seen fiberglass replicas of the 49 Merc, Model T, Model A, 55 Chevy and 41 Willys. Do you know if anyone makes a replica of the Caddy?

A: they are all custom made by specialty body shops. good luck.

Q: Where can I buy a 1959 Cadillac?
I need an estimate for these prices in Manatee county,Florida:

Car itself
insurance
MPG
repairs
.I’m 16 so what do you think the insurance would cost. I’m planning on taking drivers ed next year to reduce the cost. Do I have to pass drivers ed to get the reduced cost or do I get it reduced just for taking it?

A: You could try autotrader.com or e-bay for one. Or search for a classic car dealer on google. Insurance will be lower than a newer car unless you have the Cadillac appraised for higher by the insurance company. Repairs will be constant unless it has had alot of rebuilding prior to you purchasing it. Mpg depends on the engine.

Q: My grandfather left my son a 1959 Cadillac hearse Plus other cars?
My grandfather died in october and left my son his car collection, My son is only 10, Cars was his life. The hearse creeps me out plus will this cost a lot to own the others are ‘48 Ford ‘74 blazer, 77 chevy pick up, and ‘76 Suv Ford. They lot good and I think they run. Should we keep them.

A: The ‘48 is worth some money if it’s in good shape…..

Q: How do I put 1959 Cadillac tail lights onto my 1960 Impala? Is there a conversion kit? Or bracket I can order?

A: I don’t think there is anything you can buy. You will just have to make it or have someone make it for you. Sorry

Q: I am looking for 1959 cadillac convertible parts for conversion on my sedan?

A: oh no
why?
:-t
now there are better than it. why it?.
I recomment you buy a newer model of cadillac.
good luck

Q: My son inhered a 1959 Cadillac hearse do you need a Special drivers license?
It was my Grandfathers he bought in the 70’s restored it in the 90’s it runs great he collected cars, My son would like to kept it

A: As a historic vehicle, all he needs is a normal driver’s license. If he was to use it to transport caskets, some states have different license and tag requirements

Q: Can I buy a 1959 Cadillac?
The 1959 Cadillac has always been my favorite car, even since I was a child. I always dreamed of buying one. The problem is, when are they going to disappear altogether and I won’t be able to buy one or when is it going to be obsolete? I’m afraid that in the future I could never buy one and drive one because it will be too obsolete by that time.

A: Don’t worry about that at all! The 1959 Cadillac is arguably the most desirable Cadillac ever made, so a lot of the Coupe Devilles are either restored or kept in good shape. They can be pretty expensive. So if you really want one, than you’ll have to get some dough first!

This is a great site for collector car shopping, and you can get an idea of what the market is on those cars:

http://ww2.collectorcartrader.com/searchresults.php

Q: Is the 1959 Cadillac the king of all Cadillacs?
Do you doubt its majestic glory?

A: Cadillac has made several cars you could call the king over the years but a 59 would likely be the the world wide icon.

The Eldorado Brougham’s were among if not the most expensive cars you could buy at the time and fairly limited production.

Q: how much to paint a 1959 Cadillac 4 door ? ?
My son is doing a budget to paint his ‘59 Cadillac Four Door. He will prep it for paint. We need an round number for the budget. Thanks.

A: You can get a mako paintjob for 300 bucks… it will only last 2-3 years though. You get what you pay for. If you want it to last a lifetime it can cost up to 5k+

Q: Honda Civic???
Im 15 years old, i have a 2001 VW jetta, i want to sell the jetta and buy a 98-00 Honda Civic manual trasnmition. I want to tune it up with a nice body kit, muffler tip and spoiler. Do yall think its a good idea, or should i buy another type of car that goes fast?
Or what other car is good to customize, somthing not more than $18,000

A: wow u gota big budget…ur set..u tryin 2 go big get urself a 99-00 SI and with the rest of da money tune it…dat b16a2 will go far with some money invested…or get urself a 91-95 ex nd swap da d16z6 with any b series…make sure it has vtec..and it fits the bay without 2 much modifications…and ur set…and w.e u have left…get more performance parts..u dun really need a spoiler and a big muffler tip unless u want it…many people mite call u a “ricer’ for having such mods..so thats all up 2 u

Q: honda civic?
iight guys this is the whole thing i gotta honda civic 95 and its automatic, how much would i need to convert it to a stick shift??? or is there a shop that i can have it done?????

A: no it does not go to another place to answer ?’s it will cost as much as the junkyard will sell it for no more then 700 the only thing is you will need to buy a new clutch i would not get it from a junkyard everything bolts right up except the shift linkage you will need to drill 2 holes on the bottom of the car after you take the auto assembly out but other than that your good the 92-95 civics should already have the bracket there for the clutch pedal so good luck

Q: honda Civic?
Is their any way to make my 2001 honda civic go faster without having to buy parts?

A: take out the passenger seats… and dont put anything in the trunk… This will make your car lighter… which makes it faster.

Q: Honda civic?
Does anyone know when you should replace shocks on a 2000 Honda Civic?

A: They don’t have shocks, they have struts and they last a long time. Check them by driving down the street and see if it bounces as you drive if not then don’t worry about them. If you look under the car at the strut (inside the big spring) and see any fluid running down the strut then they are leaking and have to be changed

Q: Will my little Honda Civic make it from the Midwest to Washington?
I have a 2000 Honda Civic and am planning a move from St Louis to Washington next month. I would like to just take my car and some belongings, but I worry about the car making it through the mountains. Any thoughts?

A: it should make it as long as its been looked after and has decent tyres.
if you are really nervous about it do some checks on it like check the oil and water levels.
if you dont know much about cars ask a mechanic to do the checks first before setting off.

Q: I have an 89 honda civic and I need to convert the injectors from 2 to 4, How can i do it?
I have a 89 honda civic and I bought a vtech engine that came from 94 civic. The 89 civic is 2 injectors and the 94 civic is 4 injectors. What do I have to buy, and how do i Install it in order to convert it from 2 to 4 injectors?

A: I dont remember hondas having 2 injectors or throttlebody injection. but I’ll try to work with the info you gave me. YOu will need the entire engine wiring harness and the computer to run the 4 injectors. step by step intructions are too complicated to put here. You could have picked an easier project like building a bridge to hawaii. I think you got in a little too deep

Q: Why wont my 1989 Honda Civic start without rolling down a hill to pop the clutch?
My 1989 Honda Civic will not start without rolling down a hill to pop the clutch. I thought it might be the battery, but once I chnaged it, the car did the same thing. Does that mean the clutch has gone bad or is it something else?

A: It could be anything except what you mentioned. Obviously, the clutch and transmission and engine is working great.

Could be just about anything in the charging/starting system. Starter, battery, alternator, switches, or other things. I’d start simple. If you “jump start” the car, does that work? I’d try that and if it works you know the starter and switch is good. If you can’t jump start it then it’s the starter/solenoid, (probably) or maybe a bad wire or switch.
If it does start when “jumped” then I’d suspect the battery. The alternator is a possibility, but you said you charged the battery, so if it was a bad alternator, (causing the battery to go flat due to lack of charging current) then charging the battery would have fixed it temporarily. So that would leave the battery. Even though you applied a charge to it, that doesn’t mean it did charge up. In fact, that’s the definition of a bad battery.
I’ve heard of other more esoteric problems such as faulty switches in the transmission or things like that, so if all the obvious things check out OK then you have to start digging. Good luck

Q: How long did your Honda Civic last before having major problems?
How long (in both miles AND years) did your Honda Civic last, before having major mechanical problems? Please also indicate whether you live in a snowy area or in a place like California where the conditions favor car longevity.

A: we have a 2001 accord (basically the same as a civic) and it has 185,000 miles and counting. there is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING wrong with it. we live in michigan (snow land). i’d drive it to south america tomorrow if needed. it’s been such a good car to us.

Q: Is the 2010 Honda civic in the same size class as the 2010 Honda accord?
I am trying to persuade my parents into saving more money by buying a Honda civic. I showed them that the gas mileage is better for the civic. Also the starting price is 6,000 dollars cheaper. The last thing I can do to convince them is the safety. How does the safety compare? Are they even in the same class for size? Please help me convince my parents to buy a civic and not an accord!

A: don’t listen to the first guy, he’s a moron. the Civic is a compact, the Accord is a mid-size. the Civic has cheaper insurance and better gas mileage, it used to be a target for theft 10 years ago but not so much recently. as for safety, it may not be as safe as an Accord, but it will still save you in an accident. I walked away from a head-on collison while driving a 2000 Civic, that should be good enough for anything.

Q: Is it honda civic model changing in 2009?
Please somebody let me know weather honda civic model is going to change in UAE in 2009.Cozzz am planning to go for HONDA CIVIC.

A: Umm…car manufacturers (actually most major manufacturers of any technological product) continuously update and release new models/upgrades each year so whatever you do, there’s bound to be new stuff released all the time.

Q: How far can a Honda Civic and a Prius go on Electric mode?
How many miles can a Honda Civic and a Prius go when the battery is fully charged. (civic hybrid and prius hybrid car)

A: Hi,

stay with me and I’ll give you the full answer.

Actually, both vehicles are “full hybrids” meaning they can run under electric-only mode for short distances at low speeds.

The Civic was just upgraded to a full hybrid in 2006, but the Prius has always been a full hybrid.

The Prius system will take you further, up to 25 miles in stop and go traffic, with the regenerative braking system. And the Prius will go faster, up to 25 mph, with careful acceleration.

The Civic system is not able to do either of those marks. It uses Honda’s hybrid system called the “Integrated Motor Assist” and it’s mostly designed to boost the gas engine, not run on electric mode for any length of time.

Essentially, you have two different vehicles. The Prius is a mid-sized sedan that is more equal to a Camry or Accord for features, technology, price, and comfort. The Civic is a compact and is on the same level as a Corolla for features, tech (excluding the IMA), price and comfort.

Not to say either is better than the other for what they do. They are just different, just as the Civic is to the Accord or the Corolla is to the Prius.

One last note, Prius sold in Europe and Asia come with an “EV” mode button. Pressing that button disables the gas engine for city driving. That is where the 25 mph/25 miles distance come into play.

We don’t have that ability here in the US because our driving conditions are too different from theirs to justify having it here. Basically, we drive longer distances in our urban environments and Americans drive faster over those long distances and would overcome the EV mode too easily. (We also don’t get the auto parking option that the Prius’ over there have (similar system on Lexus GS here in the US) because thier parking is so much tighter there on average.)

The Civic isn’t available with an EV mode at all, here or there.

BTW, to answer the previous post…

Computer system updates / changes / etc. for the Prius are covered by Toyota during the 8 year or 100,000 mile warranty period. And a safe bet would be that Toyota would update your Prius any time an update would be needed after that.

Every manufacturer has computer upgrades, even Volkswagen.

And as far as less parts go, Prius have no throttle cables (electronic acceleration), no steering pumps or steering belts (electronic steering), no starters, no alternators, no distributors, each cylinder is individually controlled with it’s own fuel injector, a sealed CVT so no regular transmission, and with the regenerative barking system, you should never have to replace the brake pads because the generator does almost all of your braking.

Anyway, if you’d like any more details, read my other posts or contact me.

Q: What other engines would fit my 2000 honda civic if i wanted to engine swap?
Hi i am looking to engine swap my 2000 honda civic (coupe) and don’t know what other engines fit its body. Like what engines from other stock cars and/or and turbo or improved engines made for the civic are there?
thanks.

A: Any engine will fit any car. i have seen a CRX (really small honda) with a V8 in it. it was a beast. i would go with the K20 as well or second choice a B18, or H22. all three are great engines.

Q: What is the difference between a Honda civic and Honda Prelude? What’s better for upgrading for performance?
I love both the Honda Prelude and Civic hb and plan on getting one of the two soon. I want to have a car that has a lot of options as far as upgrading the performance of the car. Which car would be better for that? I preferably want to stay with Honda, but are there any other cars that are specifically good for what I want that may not be Honda?

A: i would say honda civic. the prelude is more powerfull but kinda heavy. consider also the acura integra..lol, i mean RSX. honda has a huge following, so aftermarket will always be available….search websites to see how much modifications will cost for each car. that might help you decide which is more bang for the buck. also, keep in mind that the accord had a larger engine, but the v6 only came with an automatic.

Q: Is it possible to convert my Honda civic by using an electric forklift motor?
I have heard recently that it was possible to convert my Honda Civic by taking out the traditional gas engine and replacing it with an electric motor from a forklift. Ever hear of someone actually doing this? Typical cost? What level of expertise do you need?

A: Given the extreme labor and cost, plus the size of the battery, forget it. Too many factors to consider, like what gear ratio, how to transmit power to the rear or front wheels, where to place the large batteries, and just how many miles would a charge provide?
Taking the drive train out of ther fork lift would be fine, if 5mph or less would satisfy your needs. In that case, just remodel the fork lift and forget the conversion.

Q: Honda Civic Door Gasket Starting to Fall off. How can I BEST stick it back on?
Hello,
I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX 2-Door. The passenger side door gasket is falling off. It dangles and gets caught in the door. Some moisture gets in and also there is a wind noise issue on the expressway. Anyhow, could someone recommend a good adhesive and technique to get the gasket fully back on the door? Pro and expert answers only please; I could think of paste, superglue, etc on my own. Thanks for your help!

A: Use 3M weather strip adhesive. It is great stuff.

A great and must read article: hummer h2 for sale

Q: Who believes that the Hummer H2 has one of the highest pollution outputs of consumer cars?
The EPA just released a report saying the Hummer H2 is the fifth most poluting car on the road. If you look at all of the emissions that are given off in manufactureing. The more enviormentally friendly car is the H2 campaired to the hybrids. The EPA people need to look more at cars and manufactureing before just looking at the end product.

A: I referenced the below source site before purchasing our Hummer (H3). At first, I was under the impression that the Hummers would have the worst pollution ratings. I was suprised to find out that the H3 and the Tahoe, both 2008 models with 4WD, carry virtually the same ratings. The gas mileage is 1 mile difference, as well as pollution scores run neck and neck. Feel free to compare both vehicles, as well as many other SUVS and cars, side by side at the source listed below.
I understand this question references the H2, however I could not find information on it. It kind of angers me that the Hummer brand is given such a negative view when there are 100 times more Tahoes/Suburbans out there on the road producing nearly the same emissions. Why do they not get that bad rap? I completely understand that there are more environmentally friendy vehicles out there. We own one in addition to our H3.
I hope that before slamming Hummer and titling them as the worst vehicles on the road, people will do a little more evaluation.

Q: How can I import a hummer H2 or H3 in India?
Can anyone help me in importing the Hummer in India . I Prefer Hummer H2 for me first then H3.

Thanks in advance.

A: I bought a Hummer H2 Last week from Magus Cars, New Delhi.
Contact them on +91-9999999413, or visit their website www.maguscars.com

Q: What is the average expected MPG of a HUMMER H2?
I am thinking of purchasing a HUMMER H2, and I have been told by some people that you only get about 9 MPG average, however others tell me that 13 MPG is a better average. Anyone own one?

A: http://www.fueleconomy.gov

Q: How much to rent a HUMMER H2 for 30 days ?
I’m from CHINA. I want to visit USA. from WEST TO EAST , I want to rent a HUMMER H2 for 30 days
Please tell me how much should I pay
Thank you very much.

A: That type of vehicle will cost anywhere from $75 to $100 per day to rent.

Q: How much does it cost to rent a H2 stretch Hummer limo for like 3 hours?
I just want the average cost for 3 hours in a H2 Hummer limo. None of the websites give an answer! I will have 15 people (My wedding party) I would appreciate estimates for both hourly and per person. Please Help!

A: On average, the price of hiring a Hummer limo ranges between $30 and $50 per person. I don’t the minimum # of hours though. I suggest you get a quote for this specific service. Limo companies will give you different rates since prices are affected by many factors. Go to limoquoter.com. Ask for a quote from multiple companies. From there you will have an idea how much its the limo price for your specific service.

Q: Where is the aux input of a Hummer H2?
Does anyone know where the aux input is in a Hummer H2? Thanks.

A: What year???
If it has one, it would be near the radio. If it doesn’t have one, you can get one installed. For his birthday, I had an auxiliary input installed on my nephews vehicle, Best-Buy did it, & did a very professional job, it looks like it came from the factory with it…

Q: Where can I get the new factory oem HUMMER H2 tail lights?
I am looking for the FACTORY oem HUMMER H2 SUV tail lights that are on the 2005-Current models. I don’t want to pay a fortune for them, so who has them cheaper than the dealers? Ebay does not have them as of right now!

A: You can check out sites like
http://www.jcwhitney.com/ or http://www.summitracing.com/
These are two of my favorite sites for parts.

Hope it helps.

Q: I have a 2003 H2 hummer and it wont start, i replace the starter still does not start?
I have a 2003 H2 hummer it wont start, I did replace the starter still doesn’t start and the battery cable is getting hot. when I start the car it makes a crank noise “clack clack” can any one help me with this problem they is no dealer here in the Congo to help me with this car I’m on my own.

A: Check you battery ground to engine block sounds like there is a bad ground. Check for loose or corroded ground wire even if the bolt seems tight I would remove it and clean the surface. Make sure the mounting surface for the starter motor is clean free of rust it is very important since the body of the starter provides the ground for the motor. Check you ground and positive battery cable make sure is not corroded if there are signs of white stuff (corrosion by battery acid) on the tip of the cable more than likely the entire cable is bad corroded, corrosion causes resistance to the point of causing that problem. Make sure the engine is not seize up get the necessary tools to try to rotate the engine by hand, it should be hard but smooth you should be able to do it with one hand if you have to lean or pull with a lot of force for it to move then you have bigger problems. Hope it helps Good luck

Q: Does anyone know how I can break my 2004 Hummer H2 mirrors so I can get them replaced uder warrenty?
Hummer is replacing the 2004/2005 Hummer H2 mirrors when they fall of the tracts and will not fold in. I guess it’s common. I want to break mine so that warrenty will replace them. Does anyone know how I can do this?
Before everyone get’s bent out of shape thinking I’m doing fraud. The mirrors already will not work, but only when I go up north where the temps drop. But here at my dealership, they can’t get them not to work because the temps don’t drop low enough. So I want to figure out a way to get them to replace them. They said they would do it if it does what I’m complaining of. So it’s not like I’m trying to get them to replace a perfectly good item. It’s something they would replace anyways.

Dang guys.

A: Broken mirrors are not covered under any warranty.

Q: Will the prices of hummer H2’s go up or down since they will be discontinued?
The older hummer H2’s 2003-2005 in particular.

A: They will decrease,.

Q: Where can I get a replacement battery for my grandsons 451K Hummer H2?
I bought the Per Perego they said was the replacement for it BUT the plug isn’t right. It has the same plug on it that is on the hummer.

A: Take a look at this store. I think they may have it.

http://stores.ebay.com/SLA-Battery-and-More

Q: Anyone know how to attach a license plate to a 05 Hummer H2 SUT after removing the spare tire rack?
I hate the spare tire on this thing but love the H2. I’d like to remove the rack and tire and find a way to attach the tag legally to the rear somehow. I’ve seen them around this way from time to time.

A: http://hummerpartsclub.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=H&Product_Code=RBCP_018&Category_Code= This site will help.Best of luck.

Q: What target-market decisions has GM made in selecting targets for the Hummer H2?
How are those decisions different from AM General’s target for the original Hummer?

A: I am doing the same thing for my college marketing class, if you have the answer to this question please let me know asap it is due thursday

Q: How much is a Hummer H2 Limo?
I was wondering on average how much the cost is of a Hummer H2 Limo for 5 people for going to a School Prom In which is around 6 miles away????
Also do you think a stretch Limo would be cheaper????

Thanks

A: Around £100 an hour and maybe a little more if there is one in your area available now. A stretch limo might be a little cheaper.
If you had picked up the phone and rang them instead of typing on here you would know the exact price by now

Q: What year Hummer H2 should I get?
I am looking for a used Hummer H2, what year is the best year to get?

A: The oldest year. Because it is cheapest.
